Beauty industry entrepreneur Nikki Tang, CEO of Dmark Beauty Corporation and DermAsia Corporation, joined the recently held panel discussion on Women in Retail Leadership at the National Retail Conference and Stores Asia Expo 2018 last August 10 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

The panel moderated by Ms. Pacita Juan, founder of Echostore Sustainable Lifestyle was also joined by Ms. Lorraine Belo-Cincochan, President & CEO of Wilcon Depot, Ms. Sherill Quintana, Chief Operating Officer of ORYSPA, Ms. Jeannie Javelosa, Co-founder of Echostore Sustainable Lifestyle And Great Women, Ms. Camille Villar, Managing Director of All Value.

Nikki Tang, as the girl boss of the country’s leading providers of dermocosmetics and aesthetic devices, proves that women set the stage for inclusiveness in retail leadership. As an industry mostly with women customers, having women leaders play a great role in strategic planning and client servicing as they can easily understand what a woman needs. But in Nikki Tang’s organization, diversity is also welcome.

After earning a degree in Manufacturing Engineering and Management from De La Salle University Manila, Nikki Tang got inspired by her mom’s entrepreneurial spirit and became open to opportunities in the beauty business. Starting her retail part of the business with the brands Sebamed, Bioderma, and Revitalash, she has expanded her line in the stores all over the Philippines.

The business scene has truly changed throughout the years. “It wasn’t like that when I entered business 20 years ago. Any business was dominated by men. Today, maybe, thanks to the matriarchal Filipino society, more and more women have joined all management levels in retail. I’d say there’s a 50/50 split across various retail sectors”, Nikki shares.

But this change meant responsibility for all genders, especially women, to educate themselves to become better leaders. Nikki Tang sees to it that she keeps herself updated with trends by attending forums and conferences globally. She now gets speaking engagements all over the globe and says it helps widen her network.

The National Retail Conference and Stores Asia Expo 2018 is an annual event where over 800 retail owners, top-level retail executives, and industry suppliers joins together to take part in the discussions of trends and best practices, to network, and to help every other business owner in finding solutions for their businesses.

Together with the other notable panelists, Nikki Tang continues to prove how women empowerment is very much alive in the retail scene in the Philippines. Truly, gender equality plays a big role in the progress and growth of any business.
