Healthy living is all the craze now. We have officemates eating salad for lunch, friends hitting the gym regularly, and new movements like going vegan or intermittent fasting. This lifestyle, however, is not a collective change but more of an individualistic goal. Of course, we cannot expect the whole country to have their fill of leafy greens and pressed juices, but it could be interesting to take a look at the world’s healthiest country to put our lifestyle into retrospect.

Italy. Not only is their diet rich in extra virgin olive oil, but their meals are served in moderation. They are not fond of heavy sauces or large portions for solo eaters, plus they love eating veggies, fish, and the occasional pasta and pizzas (of course a scoop of gelato won’t hurt). Another factor that contributes to the overall health of Italians is how they get around. Those in small towns would rather walk or ride a bike rather than spend on a car, plus the exercise helps in bringing the food down. Also, the less cars means less pollution! As a country, their government’s healthcare is well supported and there is a large number of Italians that pursues the profession of becoming a doctor.
Those are the main secrets that keep Italians living la dolce vita. They are expected to live a good 81.5 years, which is a great average for a population of 60 million!
