Privacy is a basic human right, and it is our own decision whether or not we let others know the changes we make in our lives – including aesthetic and dermatological treatments. Every patient in the Philippines is protected by The Philippine Medical Association’s Code of Ethics. In Section 6 of the Code, it states that “Section 6. The physician should hold as sacred and highly confidential whatever may be discovered or learned pertinent to the patient even after death, except when required in the promotion of justice, safety and public health.” To add to this, The Magna Carta of Patient’s Bill of Rights and Obligations ensures the privacy and confidentiality of clients with the Right to Privacy and Confidentiality which states that “The patient has the right to privacy and protection from unwarranted publicity.  The right to privacy shall include the patient’s right not to be subjected to exposure, private or public, either by photography, publications, video-taping, discussion, or by any other means that would otherwise tend to reveal his person and identity and the circumstances under which he was, he is, or he will be, under medical or surgical care or treatment.”

Undergoing medical treatments and alterations is a serious matter. Your doctors will need access to your personal information and health details to ensure a safe procedure, simply because they hold great power as to how your appearance will turn out post-treatment. However, this decision must not be taken lightly or overnight. Even if it is a small altercation to your face or body, it still poses some risks despite the raved benefits and scientific advancements. If these changes are not necessarily life threatening and more of personal wishes to desire a more pleasing appearance, it is important to first try and love these imperfections. We are all made for greatness regardless of how we look, and our appearances are not the sole defining qualities that make us who we are.
