Some may argue that entrepreneurship is a game for the youth – their fresh ideas and grit to pursue a business plan fuel the success they manage to achieve before reaching the age of 40 – but is this always the case? Can it be that those who have years of experience in the business industry can still manage to compete with the fresh grads? Is it possible for someone who has no background in the world of business to still flourish and thrive? Let’s find out.

Personally, I was exposed to my family’s hardware business at a young age. I was well aware of the process and logic behind every production and purchase, so you could say that running a business came naturally to me as I entered college and eventually ventured into the so called “real world”. Strictly speaking, an entrepreneur is someone who brings an innovative and new idea to the market. My profession has led me to become a Beautypreneur, a full time mom that specializes in providing the essential skin care products and equipment in the Philippines.

What I have come to find is that age is not a major factor in becoming a successful entrepreneur. Many associate age with success due to experience, but anyone can be resourceful and ingenious enough to figure out the technicalities of the business they are trying to pursue as they go. This part may require tapping into networks for help, something that both old and young aspiring entrepreneurs can handle regardless of age. Another must when dealing with entrepreneurship is the investment you put into the business. For this factor, age may seem like an advantage because of the built-up savings and earnings throughout the years of working! Lastly, it is truly all in the mind. Success is not given to those who can earn millions before they turn 30, it is earned by those who work tirelessly to achieve their dreams and see their ideas come to life. When we talk about mindset, it includes knowing what your market wants, and ideally being the only one who can give that to them in order to hold onto the success.

Yes, Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook at 19 years old, but Ray Kroc did not establish McDonald’s until he was 53 years old. Age will only be a hindrance if you allow it, but if you are always open to learn new things and open yourself up to experiences, then countless opportunities await you in the world of entrepreneurship.
